One member of our team, Jared, turned out to be a real artist. In Redwall
Cavern (mile 33) he presented one of the songs he has written himself.

A little later another raft arrived and we could witness a concert by
Robert Mirabal and his partner. Robert is a well known Native American
artist and was recently featured on TV in the PBS show "Spirit".
Gisela recognized him and was able to obtain an autograph.

In 1915 Russell, Clement, and Tadje started a filming expedition down through the
Grand Canyon. At mile 108 they quit their expedition and left their boat, the
"Ross Wheeler", behind. The metal boat, originally built by Bert Loper, was dragged
up to higher ground by John Waltenberg.

When we stopped for lunch right after Lava Falls at mile 180, a science team
pulled over a little while later for the same purpose. They were short on onions
and our cooks were able to help out. Then the discussion turned to what we
would get in return. When they offered us music, we had a deal. Kirk Burton
unpacked his Banjo and his Fiddle and started playing. Two more parties stopped at
our place and pretty soon we were around 80 river runners. Among the new arrivals
was Paul, who joined Kirk with his guitar. Needless to say that we left this place
very reluctantly.

But before we took off, Geoffrey Gourley
managed to take a group photo.
